Gelb and M. D. Anderson Win Qualitative and Quantitative Marketing Research Project Awards at the 23rd AMA Crystal Awards

(Houston – June 3, 2009) – On May 29, 2009 the Houston chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) held its 23rd Annual Crystal Awards. It was a night of anticipation and congratulations for many a marketer in the Houston area as the AMA Houston Chapter’s Crystal Awards is an opportunity for marketing professionals in the greater Houston area to boast about the previous year’s marketing project successes and efforts. Gelb was among the winners of the evening, walking away with two awards – Qualitative Marketing Research Project and Quantitative Marketing Research Project.

Both projects for which Gelb was recognized were for M. D. Anderson, a partner client with whom the firm has built a solid relationship and has received recognition at Crystal Awards in years past for those efforts. “On behalf of our team, thank you again for inviting us to join you at the AMA Crystal Awards last Friday. We were so happy to win not one, but TWO awards for our work with your team,” said Cara Zorzi, Manager, Marketing & Customer Research at M. D. Anderson. “The awards are a reflection of the partnership we have built with Gelb- so thank you for the submissions, but more importantly for bringing high-level research insight into our marketing strategy.”

In the Qualitative Marketing Research Project category, Gelb was recognized for an experience mapping project it completed for M. D. Anderson’s Thoracic Center. Using experience mapping, the firm was able to provide M. D. Anderson a deeper understanding of patients’ expectations and needs for their Thoracic Center. Experience mapping, a qualitative technique developed by Gelb, was used to develop insight from key audiences through in-depth interviews. This technique utilizes a visual cue, the experience map, to help patients and families recall details of stages in their journey.                    

In the Quantitative Research Project category, the firm was recognized for a quantitative Web-based survey which was designed, programmed, and hosted by Gelb to measure the effectiveness, recall and impact of M. D. Anderson’s marketing communications efforts. The survey revealed that M. D. Anderson had one of the strongest brands in the competitive set evaluated. Recall of their advertising and sponsorship produced even more favorable views of the organization.
